Motorola Radius p50 Motorola Radius p50 (1/2): Can this radio be put on 2M, if so how do I go about reprograming it? Where can I get information on this radio? Chuck tobias: I would suggest going to the Motorola site to find information, or call one of the local dealers, You may also fine someone selling the radios at a local hamfest, and get information from them.

I am not sure how that radio is, but most of the Motorola radios are programmed with a computer and software. I looked for the cables to program a HT 600 a while back, and the cables were expensive to buy new. I would think that some of the P-50s work UHF and some are VHF. You would have to check with a dealer to fine out. The serial number inside the radio determines which one it is. Perhaps someone else could tell you if the VHF model could be tuned down to the 2 meter of ham radio. Mick: The Radius P50 is a crystal controlled, 2 channel portable per the service manual, p/n 68P81068C60-A I'd say it CAN be done, but a few things would make it easier before starting.

There are 2 splits for the VHF model. H23 = 150.8-162 MHz, 1 watt H33/H43 = 136-174 MHZ.

H33 = 2 watts, H43 = 5 watts. It also helps to know if it has tone capability. If you open the battery cover and remove the battery, you should see a set of jumpers. This is how you set the CTCSS tone.

I've never set a P50 for 2 meters. In my mind the cost of the crystals outweigh the value of the radio for ham use. If it were me, I'd eBay it, and get a radio with a VFO. But that's my humble opinion. Hope this helps. Mick KB9ERU Mick: Look at the label near the dip switches for tone information.

I believe the DPL board ALSO has dip switches. You want a CTCSS board, for sure:) If your still not sure, let me know. Mick KB9ERU Devan Burnett: Sell it on Ebay and get a Standard commercial radio. I have a HX-240(got it from an elmer free).

The HX240 is self programmable, and can withstand anything. Navigation 0 #.
