Multistack Service Manual
Hey group, What's the word on Multistack Chillers? I inherited one that shows. Catching up with the maintenance next week, going to start with the strainers and the factory. Best to get the thin manual from. Multistack to. Multistack Chiller. Best to get the thin manual from Multistack to understand how it works. Multistack has an 800 number for tech support.

If you have any problems with the registration process or your account login, please. My personal opinion is, use them only as a last resort. They are a maint. They will generate a lot of work for a service shop, but as an owner you will probably be sorry. Fouled heat exchangers(plate frame), lack of accessibility to replace txv powerheads, etc, etc.

They are not a very efficient unit. I would take apart a centrifugal piece by piece before I would put those in my building. Oh, by the way, they are NOT a Trane Product. Trane sells them, but they are not made by Trane. Salesman love them cuz they get higher commision on them. Not sure why but they do. Looks like lots of people hate these suckers, and a few people don't have problems with them.

I don't really have any other options. The roof is full of piping everywhere, we do not have helicopters available, cutting a hole in the roof or wall is nearly impossible. They've got an old R-11 centravac in there now, its way oversized. I redid the load calculations and it was half of what the original centravac was. Their problem is chiller cycling, and with the multistacks i can have them cycle down to a really low cooling load.

I am still confident that this is the best option. My knowledge of these is not first hand. My office does sell alot of them but our recip. Services them. I have never worked on one myself but the recip. Guys say that they like them. If you don't like plate and frame you will not like the new small tonnage air cooled from trane(although it is in the chw).
If the shells are still good on the centravac we do alot of turbocore retrofits and again I don't personally work on them but the recip. Guys like that option as well. They tell me that 2 guys can carry a 100 ton comp. Up the stairs. I know that they just did one on about a 350 ton Carrier screw that was oversized and used 3 or 4 comps. And they tell me that it worked out great. Depending on what capacity you need, have you considered small tonnage water cooled screws?

It's kind of a pain, but you can take them all to pieces and put them in a freight or regular elevator. I know the York YWSC goes up to around 240TR, don't know on the Trane RTW, but either one in multiple machines will fill the bill and give you redundancy. On the filter issue - I, too, have seen full flow filters on applications like this. Strainers on your condenser pumps is one thing, but if you're doing actual filters, you better think about duplexing them, or you may have a lot of sleepless nights during cooling season.
